Taking the Leap

Five Years Too Long

It took me five years to launch Spinning for Jesus and finally share my faith through my public blog. Five years of hesitation, distraction, and doubt. Why so long? Life got in the way… maybe. But honestly? The biggest obstacle wasn’t out there—it was in me.

My fear said no.
No one will care.
It needs to be more perfect.
You’re gonna get something important wrong.
You’re not holy enough to speak for God.

Each “no” sounded sensible, even humble. But all of them served one purpose: to keep me silent. The Enemy didn’t need to defeat me—he only needed to keep me distracted long enough that I never started.

The truth is, he’s a master at that. The constant noise, the busyness that feels productive but keeps us spiritually stagnant—it’s all part of his plan to keep us running in circles while our calling waits patiently upstream.

But God is the Master of all time, as the ancient prayer reminds us:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

Those words remind me that time is not the enemy—it’s God’s gift. And those short years we’re given should be spent running, swimming, leaping toward Him.

It’s no wonder I love the image of the salmon—fighting its way upstream, leaping over rushing water to return home. Like them, our hearts are drawn homeward to the place we were made for. St. Augustine said it best: “Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

So here I am, finally leaping. Letting God use me—flaws, fears, and all. Letting the Holy Spirit carry me where I once resisted going. And I have to say, surrender feels a lot like freedom.

My heart’s on fire—burning, yes, but growing through the flame.

So let’s go—upstream, homeward, and into the current of grace.
